The Humboldt Voice Committee meets every fourth Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., and the meetings are open to the public. Our April 27th and May 25thrd meetings will be held at Jefferson High School in the Community Room #A44 (5210 N. Kerby Avenue), which is located near the Commercial Street entrance. Please check back here monthly to confirm the meeting location, as it may change from time to time.
Background
As you may know, the 2008 Portland Community College (PCC) bond measure passed, and PCC’s Cascade Campus will commence work on design and expansion plans in the near future. This will have implications for residents, students and businesses in the Humboldt neighborhood.
The Humboldt Neighborhood Association has formed a subcommittee called the Humboldt Voice Committee (“HVC”) to interface with PCC regarding the expansion. There are many issues to be addressed in the expansion process, including but not limited to (a) the effects of expansion on existing homes and business properties and our neighborhood fabric, (b) the pedestrian and neighborhood appeal of the final design, (c) traffic and parking considerations, (d) the impact of expansion on neighborhood economics, (e) the opportunity PCC and the Humboldt Neighborhood have to partner to create a true urban campus and (f) the opportunity PCC has to serve as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.
