October 11, 2017 Meeting Minutes

Community Members: (Rosemary Brown, Trent Gay, Kirby McCurtis, Alan Stubbs, Jenn Nowak, Chase Spross, Karen McAvoy, Cathrn Riggs.
Board Business: Motion to approve October Minutes by John O, seconded by Kym J.
NECN Board Report: Kym shared priorities set by NECN for their work this year:
- Clean Air
o Missing Middle
- Resiliency from Disaster, Emergency Housing
- Disenfranchised Portlanders
ICE, Sanctuary City efforts
- Stronger Relationship with Schools
- Outdated Infrastructure
o Street Disrepair
o Clarity around City Processes o Issues of Complaint-Driven Structure (implicit bias)
- Recruitment and Recognition o Increase, Engage and Support Community Partners
o Leverage Neighborhood Activities with City.
PCC: Farmers Market was well-attended & received enthusiastic support. PCC will consider expanding this to an ongoing, regular event.
Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) Update: There will be a night-time deployment exercise at Unthank Park on 10/16, 7-9PM.
Library: Kirby reviewed coming events & provided monthly flyers.
Education: Rosemary has been contacting neighborhood schools & their representatives, requesting how HNA can best support them. Ros also shared the newly proposed school boundaries. HNA unanimously endorsed the proposal for our neighborhood, while also expressing concerns for the air quality at these schools.
Board Retreat: Anne recommends a facilitated planning retreat to consider HNA goals & activities. NECN will help direct & coordinate a facilitator. Payment can come from the marketing resources already received. Discussion followed on whether to include neighborhood members or limit the retreat to the Board & Committees, after requesting neighborhood input.
This would be planned for January or February.
Outreach: Attendee Chase Spross, from XRay Radio, located in the Falcon Arts Building expressed much interest & support for HNA. He offers a future interview of HNA to be broadcast by the radio station.
November meeting to be held Wednesday, the 8th, from 7pm-9pm, at Neil Kelly, 804 N Alberta Street
