HUMBOLDT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MINUTES

Board Members Present:

Clifford Walker, Alicia Richards, Abe Proctor

Absent:Kymberly Jeka, John Ollis, Rosemary Brown, Kate Piper (leave of absence), Isa Dean

Member at Large: Richard Hunter absent 

Minutes:  Abe moved to approve May minutes and Alicia seconded the move. 

Introductions  

Brandi from EMSWCD explained their program whose mission is to protect land and water and teach people how to be stewards of such.

Treasurer report:

$2013.11 checking account; $1000.00 savings account.  

Guests:  

FLAG Patricia RImmer:Flag is a student exchange program looking for host families for students who will attend Roosevelt and Benson.  In existence since 1989 and over 5000 students hosted.

Portlandfreedomfund.org rep Ian presented on his wish for our support for block party on August 10thon N Killingworth between N. Williams and N. Cleveland between 3-11pm.  Music will be 5-10.

It is a donation fundraiser for prison advocacy, changing the minimum sentencing laws, supporting a bail fund, and mental health advocacy for prisoners.  No alcohol or cannabis permitted.  The attendees of tonight’s meeting support the event and he hopes for a letter from HNA chair to that effect.

Anne Greenwood Albina Greenrequests the money earmarked for upgrades to the park improvements are used for Mike instead of Spencer due to a change in Spencer’s health.  And she would like approval of using HNA 501c3 status for receivingdonations from local businesses for the event since she did not get the grant.  She will return to future meetings to keep us updated.  Event will be in fall.

Ongoing:

Hey Neighborand Library info passed around. 

Walk Williams 2ndWed of Month, May-OctBrandi explained program of local businesses encouraging community and fun.

PCC Abe Proctor PCC would like to host a National Night Outon the campus and would like amember of HNA to table the event.  He also told us about apermanent exhibitat the PCC library in honor of Evelyn Crowettwho was a long-term resident.  The exhibit is a display of African American history in the area.  PCC sent 200 people to the Nat’l Conference on Race and Ethnicityin the hopes of making PCC as much of an inclusive institution as possible with a focus on diversity and equity.

AKSNC Alicia Richards will attend every 2 mos mtg.  Abe explained history of group as a means to reduce crime in the area with the partnerships of residents, businesses, and law enforcement.

Corrie ODOTShe was not in attendance but it was reported fence is down and area was mowed.

HNA cleanupannounced as success and ideas for next year include less going into dumpsters.
